In the last couple of weeks Lounes Chikhi has been in Madagascar, mainly in Antananarivo, the capital, and in Mahajanga, in the NW of Madagascar. He met with Barbara Le Pors who is responsible for the field work and for all the students. He also met with our Malagasy colleagues who have made that project possible, by identifying and co-supervising students, projects, and many other things. It was great to see Prof. Nicole Volasoa Andriaholinirina, Primatologist and Director of the SVE “Mention” (Sciences de la Vie et de l’Environnement), Prof Solofonirina Rasoloarijoanina, primatologist, collaborator of Ute Radespiel and Vice-President of the University, and Prof. Jean-François Rajoanarison, Dean of the University. Finally, Lounes Chikhi has been working with Gabriele Sgarlata and François Jacquis Randriamaroson, on the results of density estimates for two species of mouse lemurs, Microcebus tavaratra and M. arnholdi. The good news is that densities were either high or very high ! More scientific news soon !
